Dr. Dre is no stranger to the spotlight. For the last few decades, he’s been the topic of conversation from his scandalous divorce to his boss moves with the selling of his ultra-popular Beats by Dre headphones. In the midst of it all, he was spotted out with Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star Apryl Jones. Now that’s a headline none of us saw coming…
Before we can break down Dr. Dre and Apryl Jones and their alleged relationship, let’s dissect things a little further to find out how we ended up here in the first place.
It all started with Omarion and Apryl Jones
For many of us, Apryl found her way into our homes as Omarion’s baby mama. In 2014, they sat down with VLAD TV and discussed the origins of their relationship. While there was no clear timeline, it was apparent they had some type of open relationship initially, up until they sorted some things out and became monogamous.
They welcomed two children, Megga and A’mei, and put their relationship on front street by appearing on Love & Hip Hop Hollywood. However, things didn’t last. Apryl told Voyage LA that after she had their second child, she wasn’t in a good place and Omarion “decided to leave without explanation.” Apryl added, “I was forced to have to pick up the pieces of my life.”
Of course, she briefly moved on with Omarion’s B2K bandmate and their Love & Hip Hop co-star Lil Fizz. After tons of drama, that relationship fizzled out as well.
Dr. Dre and his wife head toward divorce
Billboard broke the news that in June 2020, and after 24 years of marriage, Dr. Dre’s wife, Nicole Young, had filed for divorce. From there, things got extremely messy. The Blast obtained records showing the court rejected her request for Dr. Dre to have an in-person deposition where she could have free range to address issues from their marriage on the record, including her allegation that he had several mistresses. ET Online recently released more graphic details of Nicole’s allegations while being married to Dr. Dre, including, physical, verbal, and emotional abuse.
TMZ obtained a breakdown of her financial request of $2 million in monthly spousal support, which included a request for $900,000 a month for entertainment purposes. As of this writing, the divorce proceedings rage on.
Dr. Dre and Apryl Jones go public
PageSix posted pictures of Dr. Dre with a “mysterious” woman leaving BOA Steakhouse on February 10, 2020. It didn’t take long for Black Twitter to identify the woman in question as Apryl. The Shaderoom also did their investigating, further solidifying the obvious. The following day, MadameNoire spoke with Apryl, and although she didn’t confirm that she and Dre were an item, she did state: “I am dating. And…I’m not looking for anything.”
Dre takes action against another ‘Love & Hip Hop’ star
Apryl’s Love & Hip Hop Hollywood castmate Moneice Slaughter has been very vocal about this entire situation. In case you forgot — Moniece has a baby with Apryl’s ex, Lil Fizz, so there’s definitely something personal about Moniece spilling this alleged tea.
So Moniece went on Instagram live with Hot New Hip Hop where she all but confirmed that Dr. Dre and Apryl were dating. She also said Dre bought Apryl a Range Rover for her birthday.
But things took a turn for the worse. After spilling that tea, Moniece posted a video of herself in tears. She claimed Dr. Dre had someone call her phone to threaten her….and she called him a woman beater.
But that wasn’t all. Moniece then posted on Instagram that her life was in a danger and she needed to step away from social media platform and wouldn’t be doing any interviews to protect herself and her family.
Of course, Moniece is back to posting on social media so her little hiatus didn’t last long.
Look, we don’t know what to make of this relationship. But if they like it, I love it. There’s somebody for everybody, and maybe for this phase in their lives, their little relationship makes sense to them.
Regardless of how this unfolds, we hope Apryl is happy and getting whatever out of this that she deserves. We also hope Dr. Dre is recovering well from his brain aneurysm and we wish them both the best.
