Gabrielle Union has more than twenty years in the game as an actress and television personality. She also has a reputation for being beautiful, fit, and ageless, and it’s all thanks to her impeccable diet and fitness regimen. Here’s how the actress, wife, and mom manages to look and feel amazing year after year.
1. She makes good use of idle time
Perhaps she has her hands full now that she and hubby Dwayne Wade have four kids to raise, but even when she has some free time, you won’t see her just hanging out. “Being sedentary is not your friend,” Gabrielle Union told Everyday Health. So when she has downtime on set, in lieu of napping, she will do some quick workouts instead. “20 jumping jacks, I’ll run in place for like 30 seconds, I’ll drop down and do 10 push-ups and 10 sit-ups,” she revealed.
2. She’s vegan-ish
Gabrielle Union’s diet is pretty easy to follow because she doesn’t go hardcore on any fads. Instead, while you won’t catch her giving up meats fully, she does follow an “almost vegan” lifestyle. “I eliminated gluten, soy, and dairy from my diet and it’s actually made a huge difference,” she shared in conversation with Everyday Health.
3. She loves to hit the great outdoors
Combining two important components to her life, Gabby loves to feel the sun on her skin. Not only is the Vitamin D an important part of her skincare routine, but being outside is a dual experience. Gabby tells Women’s Health Magazine whether she’s taking her dog for a walk, or hitting the park and trails, being one with nature is one of the more convenient ways for her to stay fit.
4. Being on the big screen exposes the bulge
High-def filming equipment on the sets of television shows and movies encourages her to keep herself in the best shape possible. She told Fitness Magazine she worries about “bra fat, an armpit bulge, or all those other things that in real life aren’t that bad,” but on TV, they can be a bit “horrifying.”
As a result, she suggests to Us Magazine that you take part in daily cardio training and keep “your heart rate in your fat-burning zone.”
5. Her not-so-common secret
If you’re a fan of our celebrity diet and fitness tips, this one won’t catch you by surprise. Want to know what the secret, the best anti-aging product is, according to Gabrielle Union? Water!
If that’s too bland for you, she shares the ingredient that takes it to another level for her in a post on Instagram. “I add lemon for taste and try to finish the gallon by 6 pm,” she explained.
6. Pilates saves the day
Not a morning person? Neither is she. But, don’t fear, Pilates seems to be the answer. “The great thing about Pilates is that I can take out my annoyance from waking up early on the machines instead of human beings. It’s for the greater good,” she told Women’s Health Magazine.
7. She snacks in a different kind of way
When I think of snacks, I think of chips, cookies, and ice cream. And, Gabrielle Union seems to be the same way. She references how healthy snacks, in general, have a reputation for not being fun, she said while talking with Everyday Health. It seems that her “un-fun” snack of choice is unsalted almonds. While they don’t seem to be her favorite, they do the trick by taking “the edge off the hunger pains.”
8. An app helps her work out on-the-go
“It’s not always easy to make time for YOU when juggling family, work, life demands etc…” Gabrielle Union shared on an Instagram post. And even though we can assume she’s a paid sponsor of FitOn, the app hosts some of her go-to workouts. From using dumbbells to squats and ab workouts, the app helps her to remain fit even when she’s running short on time.
9. She still indulges
My biggest vice is my inability to find balance. When diets fail me, it’s because I tend to feel deprived. But Gabrielle Union has figured out what it took me years to realize. If she wants to chow down on a cookie or cupcake, she doesn’t deny herself, she told Fitness Magazine.
10. Eating from a colorful plate
Instead of looking at life and thinking about all you can’t have, sometimes it’s good to think about what you must have. US Magazine shares that Gabrielle Union makes sure to have at least two servings of leafy greens per day. Her go-to trick is to make the plate as “colorful as possible.” She does this so she can get all of her nutrients in, while fully enjoying the flavors of each meal.
Here’s to enjoying cake and salads along the way!
