Garcelle Beauvais: 10 Things You Need to Know

Bravo recently revealed Garcelle Beauvais will be the first black cast member on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She’ll still be known as “Fancy” by all of us The Jaime Foxx Show lovers, but we’re excited to see what she brings to RHOBH (and if she can hold her own on the show).

“As the first African American Housewife in the Beverly Hills franchise, I am honored and humbled by this awesome opportunity to exemplify the fact that Black Girl Magic lives and thrives in every zip code!” Garcelle said, in part, in a statement.

Ahead of the Season 10 premiere, we thought we’d dig deeper into this veteran actress’ history to find out some interesting things you may not know about her.

From a mysterious tattoo to her favorite food (that’s guaranteed to make you barf), here are 10 things you need to know about Garcelle Beauvais.

1. She was a top model

The New York Post reveals the Haitian-American beauty’s first entrance into the entertainment business wasn’t as an actress. Instead, she got her start as a Ford model at the tender age of 17.

“I never really understood the girls who complained about [modeling],” she said. “I got to travel the world, I got paid a lot more than a 17-year-old would at McDonald’s. What’s there to b***h about?”

2. She comes from a competitive family

In an interview series called Black Actress, Garcelle Beauvais let it be known that she isn’t afraid of competition. Coming from a family of five girls and two boys, the competitive spirit runs through her veins. Hopefully, that sibling rivalry toughened her up in preparation to deal with the shadiest women on RHOBH.

3. Garcelle Beauvais is a children’s book author

If you didn’t know, both of Garcelle’s previous husbands were white men. Yes, she’s down with the swirl. As a result, she has three children, Oliver Sanders, and fraternal twins, Jaid and Jax Nilon.

In an effort to speak to their experience, she created a series called I Am, which houses books like I Am Mixed. In addition to authoring this book, the mother of three shared with Wendy Williams that it’s important for her to promote individuality with her twins. We agree!

4. She has a secret tattoo

A little body ink never hurt nobody, right? Well according to US Magazine, Garcelle Beauvais has two tattoos: a rose on her ankle and some more ink in a private place. Hmm…is it below the belt?

Let’s hope she doesn’t get wasted on RHOBH and accidentally show this secretive tattoo to the world.

5. You won’t catch her on the Stairmaster

Garcelle doesn’t mind stepping into a fitness center, which works well for the Housewives franchise. They frequently film scenes in gyms, and the fitness lifestyle is one Garcelle can definitely keep up with.

While chatting with PeopleTV,  she mentioned that her workout of choice is pilates. When it comes to cardio machines, you can catch her burning off Oreos and pizza on the treadmill. However, don’t expect to see her on the Stairmaster. It’s a no for her!

6. She blew the lid off her ex-husband’s infidelity

The two-time divorcée found herself in the middle of a huge infidelity scandal in 2009.  After discovering her then-husband Mike Nilon had been cheating on her, she sent an email to his co-workers to expose his alleged five-year affair. Things went bad when the entire email was leaked, word for word, to many news sources, including People.

“I found out today that MY husband of almost 9 yrs has been having an affair for 5 yrs with some slut in Chicago. I am devastated!!!!” the email read, in part.

Sheesh! At least we know she’s not afraid to call someone out when they’re doing wrong (watch out, Kyle Richards).

7. Beautiful from the inside out

People magazine is notorious for celebrating all the good-looking celebrities out there. And Garcelle found herself as an honoree in 2014, as one of their 50 Most Beautiful Women, according to She Brand.

She was in good company with other lovely African-American entertainers, including Lupita Nyong’o and Kerry Washington.

8. She’s low-maintenance

In an interview at Beautycon, Garcelle was put on the spot by her make-up artist, Kym Nicole, who said the new RHBOH star isn’t a fan of getting all glammed up. If it were up to Garcelle, she would never wear eyelashes or red lipstick.

When she does opt for lashes, she bypasses lash extensions and wears the strips instead. Why? Because she doesn’t want to have “Bambi eyes” in the morning. Her words, not mine.

9. Garcelle Beauvais loves her some Spam

Garcelle tends to lead a life of balance when it comes to food. But, I was surprised to find out that in the US Magazine interview that her favorite food is… SPAM. Meh.

She also told PeopleTV that if pizza is in her face, she’s knocking down multiple slices, and Oreos are her weakness.

Same sis, same!

10. She’s still a hard-working actress

While chatting with AfterBuzz TV, Garcelle celebrated her continued success in Hollywood. She will be featured on a Netflix multi-cam show in Nov. 2019, called Merry Happy Whatever. She also joined the CBS All Access Anthology series called Tell me a story.

Garcelle is constantly looking for an opportunity to remain relevant, expand her resume, and thrive in an industry that sometimes forgets the versatility in black women.
