Few entertainers can go from sitting on the top of the charts to serving looks on every red carpet, to being real-life relationship goals… unless you’re Ciara. The “Goodies” singer has stayed relevant and influenced pop culture in multiple ways. With a smile that shines bright and a body that’s always right, we couldn’t help but wonder… what does she do to keep it all together?
Even though the mother of two is now expecting baby number three with hubby Russell Wilson, don’t get it twisted. Her body is still a work of art, and we have the low-down on Ciara’s diet and fitness secrets.
1. Motherhood changed her fitness schedule
After having two children, Ciara was still committed to getting in the gym. But, with her new fitness goals, came new lessons. Ciara told Vogue: “I would wake up in the morning, breastfeed, eat a small meal, go train, come back home, pump, eat a small meal, breastfeed, eat lunch, and then go train again.”
Finding a balance after having a baby is a task, but Ciara handled it like a boss!
2. Ciara’s diet keeps her peach looking right
Ciara shared in conversation with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson on MTV’s House of Style that as a southern girl, she still wants to be shredded and have tight abs, but she added that she wants to maintain her “two basketballs,” if you catch our drift…
To get that glorious Georgia peach, the entertainer focuses on her diet. For breakfast, the singer told Instyle she eats egg whites, turkey sausage, and healthy pancakes.
3. She limits her cheat meals
Ciara had a very warm and enlightening interview with E! News about the importance of balance. She shared that while she was supposed to be dieting, she enjoyed the chicken piccata from The Cheesecake Factory. “The truth is, I had that moment, but you can’t have many of those moments and think you’re gonna get the results,” she said.
The key is to plan those moments when you can enjoy a cheat meal without sacrificing your ultimate fitness goals.
4. Eliminating salt is the key to Ciara’s diet
While Ciara totally loves Thanksgiving, she has found that minimizing and sometimes eliminating salt helps her achieve the results she desires. And with those decisions comes increased discipline. “When I was younger, I would play around. I would work out and then eat a burrito afterward,” she told Women’s Health.
But those days of playing around are long gone. Not only do you have to train with intention — just like Ciara — but you must eat with intention, too.
5. Water helps her drop those extra pounds
Ciara has been pregnant, lost 60 pounds, pregnant again and lost another 65 pounds. Whew! And the secret ingredient to getting the weight off boils down to some good ol’ H2O.
“I was like the scale is not moving like that, and I’m like what is going on?” Ciara said to ExtraTV. She then had a talk with her nutritionist and he upped he water intake.
“Automatically, the numbers started dropping pretty quickly, very rapidly,” she said. “So, I think water is really important in your diet!
6. Ciara trains for life
She sometimes trains for special events, such as if she’s about to film a video or go on tour. But a healthy diet and fitness regimen are now apart of her lifestyle. She told W magazine: “Once I made that commitment to live healthier and make better fitness decisions, it was game-changing for me.”
Take it from Ci-Ci. Don’t just train for a summer body or an event, train for life!
7. She ends the day with a workout
After a full day of killing the game, an evening workout is how she closes out the day. As if waking up early to hit the gym, dropping the kids off, running multiple empires, and being a wife is enough, she still manages to get in a 30-45 minute session on the Peloton exercise bike, she told Vogue.
8. Training with bae
Ciara’s husband Russell Wilson, is no stranger to needing to be in tip-top shape, thanks to his career as the star quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. Thankfully he has a wife who can match his hustle in the gym.
The two share the same personal trainer, Decker Davis, according to People. They do multiple workout styles while in session, from Tabta to plyometrics to weightlifting. “I’ve been really blessed with great trainers who make it fun, so I’ve always gotten excited to work out,” she told the magazine.
9. Ciara’s a lean, mean, running machine
Ciara ran track in high school, so her love for running isn’t all that surprising. But, the intensity at which she pushes through might be the interesting part.
She starts on the treadmill for one minute, and then it gets REAL! “You push yourself in between breaks to the highest speed you can go to. Spring and hop off, and repeat,” she revealed while chatting with W magazine.
Sounds easy enough, right? Well, Ciara continues by sharing: “You can do it 10 times, and it really gets your cardiovascular going like crazy, and it’s good for conditioning.”
Yeahhhh…we’ll have to start off slow before we can level up to Ciara’s endurance!
10. She has a problem area, too
Though she exudes confidence and has mastered the best poses, Ciara isn’t without her flaws. The biggest area of her concern is her tummy (same sis, same).
However, unlike us, she diets AND focuses on her problem spot. Ciara told Women’s Health she stays lean by doing cardio and “keeping my stomach squeezed in throughout the day.”
She also isn’t opposed to going in on an ab workout. “We do advanced ab work—probably 500 ab exercises total per session,” she said. “Though sometimes we’ll stop at 200.”
