Rihanna launched her Fenty luxury fashion line in 2019 with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Sadly, after less than two years, her brief foray into the fashion business is coming to an end. Here’s why Rihanna’s Fenty fashion line is shutting down for good.
Fans knew something was up
Fans thought something fishy was going on with Rihanna’s Fenty line since the company’s last Instagram post was made on Jan. 1, 2021. But not only that, the last time Fenty even dropped a collection was in November 2020 when Rihanna teamed up with one of her favorite shoe designers Amina Muaddi for a footwear collection.
LVMH breaks the news
LVMH confirmed via a statement to WWD: “Rihanna and LVMH have jointly made the decision to put on hold the RTW activity, based in Europe, pending better conditions.”
LVMH also confirmed that the COVID-19 pandemic is the main reason the line is coming to an end. According to Teen Vogue, Rihanna was unable to be hands-on with the business due to the pandemic and couldn’t travel to Paris and Italy to keep the design process flowing.
According to sources, a skeleton staff remains at Fenty’s Paris headquarters to wind down remaining operations.
This isn’t the end
But don’t worry, Rihanna is still chugging along with her Fenty empire, and LVMH is still in her corner. They have plans to focus primarily on her popular Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin lines. LVMH also wants to get in on her successful Savage x Fenty lingerie line that Instagram models are obsessed with.
Rihanna became the first Black woman to own a luxury brand with LVMH when Fenty first launched. She was in good company with other luxury brands owned by the French conglomerate, including Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton.
Now that her fashion line is done-zo, she’ll be able to focus on other things…like a new album (we hope!)
