Kelly Rowland lives a fast life as a singer and entertainer. Not only has she partnered with Fabletics for a line of workout gear, but she is committed to nurturing her physical health through a healthy diet and exercise. She even goes as far as to work with her blood type in order to determine which foods to consume. Yup, she means business! No wonder the wife and mom of one keeps looking better and better as the years pass by.
Here’s what we know about how Kelly Rowland stays in shape with an optimal diet and fitness regimen.
1. She’s all about the cycle life
When you grew up running through Houston in high-heels in the park, changing up your workout often is probably going to suit you best. Kelly Rowland keeps things fun by going to SoulCycle — the indoor cycling class. She loves the music and finds it to be an overall fun workout, she tells Well and Good.
Good music does make even the most challenging workouts go by quickly!
2. Kelly Rowland stays in shape with her go-to workout
A solid core is crucial for Kelly and there’s one exercise she goes to for this. “My go-to workout is Pilates,” Kelly tells Health. Why? Because it helps to strengthen her core. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that she has “the best teacher.”
She added she prefers a personal trainer for her Pilates sessions versus the traditional group setting. So, sorry. Your chances of doing a pelvic curl next to the Destiny’s Child singer are slim to none.
3. Being a ballerina sheds the pounds
Sometimes you have to step outside of your comfort zone to lose those final pounds. Madamenoire reveals that, in addition to a clean diet and a lot of water, Kelly opted for ballet classes to get the last few pounds off post-baby.
While she only had nine pounds to lose, she ended up losing twelve and doing something she loved the entire time!
4. Kelly Rowland has abs of steel
Kelly spoke with People and shared the five-minute workout that gets her abs going. It’s 10 moves in total, like high knees, oblique crunch and bicycles (which happens to be her favorite, BTW).
5. This physical sport is the best therapy
Kelly Rowland stays in shape by being committed to working out. In her life, working out is necessary and a form of therapy. While conversing with Body and Soul, Kelly shared that boxing classes, in particular, provide her with the right amount of “stress relief.” She added, “When I don’t work out, it affects my mood.”
6. Oatmeal, her way
As the saying goes, the first meal of the day is the most important. For Kelly Rowland, her preference happens to be oatmeal, but in a special way. “I add a little maple syrup, a little salt, and almond milk, and I’m set,” Kelly told Well and Good.
And if that’s not interesting enough, she added: “Sometimes I’ll add cinnamon and some raisins and pumpkin seeds.”
Raisins? Sure! Pumpkin anything, I’ll pass!
7. Taking cues from her blood type
There are a lot of ways to figure out what to eat and what not to eat. A good deal of people rely on allergy tests as a way to avoid inflammatory foods, while Kelly told Body and Soul she relies on her blood type to figure out what works best for her body.
Although she’s a southern girl at heart, the burgers and bacon must come last when she thinks about her blood type and what it requires. So instead, she overloads on veggies and fish and avoids southern delicacies more often than none.
8. She’s an 80/20 kind of girl
Abs are made in the kitchen, and Kelly has a system in place that allows her to be mindful and enjoy chocolate and wine. “80% of the time I eat the things my body needs, and 20% of the time, it’s wine or chocolate,” Kelly told Body and Soul.
Now there’s a system I can get behind!
9. Kelly Rowland’s diet consists of healthy foods
There are things Kelly craves a lot, and no, they’re not pizza or cake! “I actually crave a salad and celery sticks,” she shared with Now to Love. “My friends are like ‘What the?!” But on holidays it is a full-on calorie fest.”
10. Making healthy substitutions
With Burger King’s Impossible Burger and meat substitutes being offered everywhere, Kelly has her own method to ensure she satisfies any cravings. When she wants a steak, she grills some portobello mushrooms and puts “a little goat cheese on them,” she told Shape
And when it comes time to make fish tacos, rather than using flour tortillas, she uses butter lettuce leaves. And, the best part of her thought process is around desserts. “I’ve learned to satisfy my sweet tooth by replacing Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups with half a tablespoon of almond butter on half a banana,” she said. Interesting. We might have to give it a try!
