Armoni Henry, a 44-year-old man, has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, 21-year-old Jailene Flores, at a Mariano’s store in Evergreen Park, where she worked. The incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday when Henry entered the store and shot Flores inside a storage room.
Police used a license plate reader to track Henry’s red Ford Focus to the Edgewater neighborhood in Chicago’s North Side. He was apprehended on West Thorndale Avenue after hitting an unmarked police car with his vehicle. Upon his arrest, a loaded 9mm gun was found.
According to Evergreen Park Police Chief Michael Saunders, Henry had a history of confrontation with Flores. She had previously worked at an Amazon store in Oak Lawn but left after an incident involving Henry and began working at Mariano’s.
Flores had sought a restraining order against Henry earlier in the year, as revealed during a court hearing. Henry had a prior arrest in Evergreen Park for possessing a loaded gun without a firearm owner’s identification card, but the charges were dropped months later.
Surveillance video from Mariano’s showed Flores walking away from Henry before being shot multiple times around 9:15 a.m. She was found deceased in a storage room.
